Saturday, April 20th 2024 - Saturday is not a normal schools day, and yet at 9:15am three teams representing École Dugald arrived at the school to get ready for the Esport Canada Scholastic Nationals '24, a Rocket League tournament that spanned coast-to-coast with 16-teams representing Canadian U15 school.
Mme Craigen, Mr. Hrabi, and Mr. Koblun were there to open the doors and organize the tournament, and at 10:00am the first matches were underway. Students played 3 rounds of qualifying, and then playoffs began at 12:30pm.

It was incredible to watch the student communicate, strategize, gameplan, and work together to craft some of the strongest play we've seen this year from our students. Our White Dragons dealt with adversity as sickness took out two of their players prior to the tournament start, and others stepped up to take their place. The Red Dragons qualified for the Competitive tournament (Finishing Top of their group) and the Black and White Dragons qualified for the Amateur tournament (3rd and 4th of their respective groups).
The teams battled hard, and when the dust settled the ÉDS Red Dragons finished tied for 3rd place in Canada, while the Black and White Dragons finished Top-12 (tied for 9th) and Top-16 (tied for 13th).

We are so proud of our players who bounced back from adversity, and gave it their all. And now we transition to finish our Pokémon Unite season strong and get ready for the MSEA Scholastic Esport Expo in-person tournament at Red River College in late May. Let's go Dragons!
