It was a landmark weekend for the École Dugald School Dragons esports program, highlighted by success across multiple titles and events. Before competition even began at the Manitoba School Esports Association (MSEA) Brawlhalla 2026 Provincial Finals, ÉDS had already made history—being crowned the Manitoba Provincial Minecraft Winter Parkour Build Challenge Champions.
The ÉDS Black Dragons (Ashton Chartrand, Jacob Durkson, Logan Ford, and Zach Skrypnyk) rose above the competition, outperforming 24 other builds from across the province to claim the top spot. Their creativity, technical skill, and attention to detail set them apart, earning ÉDS its first major victory of the weekend.
Building on that momentum, the Dragons delivered an exceptional performance at the MSEA Brawlhalla 2026 Provincial Finals, held on March 21, 2026 at Steinbach Regional Secondary School in Steinbach, Manitoba. ÉDS was proudly represented by five Brawlhalla teams in the Middle Years Division and four teams competing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Leading the charge, the ÉDS Red Dragons (Eric Poirier, Jamal Peadson, and Owen Smith) captured the AAA Brawlhalla Provincial Championship, earning the title of best team in Manitoba. Their dominant performance throughout the tournament showcased exceptional skill, communication, and composure under pressure.
Adding to the success, the ÉDS Blue Dragons (Levi Lozie, Aiden Jatta-Harder, and Brennan Kapkey) battled their way through a highly competitive field to claim the AAA Consolation Lower Bracket title, demonstrating resilience and perseverance after an early setback.
In the Game Changers Division, both the ÉDS Periwinkle Dragons (Addison Willoughby, Kaylin Whiklo, and Winter Ranseth) and ÉDS Sapphire Dragons (Paige Davis, Alisson Harder, and Hartley Devissier) delivered impressive performances, each finishing in the Top 4, highlighting the depth of talent within the ÉDS esports program.
The ÉDS Cyan Dragons (Dawson Gusberti, Damien Saurette, and Evan Lamontagne) also represented the school with pride, finishing in the Top 8 in the A Division, while continuing to grow and compete at a high level.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the ÉDS Gold Dragons (Austin Huff and Grayson Haight) advanced to the Quarter Finals, competing fiercely against some of the province’s top players and gaining valuable experience on the big stage. Zachery Luedecke, Kingston Ross, Owen Willoughby, Grayson Whiklo, Will Labiuk and Alex Klassen all also represented Dugald in the tournament, battling against top teams in the province.
Beyond competition, ÉDS students also played a key role behind the scenes. A dedicated group of student shoutcaster volunteers (Jacob Durksen, Evan Tiessen, Lewis Hodgert, Claire Potapinski, and Addilyn Kent) helped run the event broadcast, bringing energy, insight, and excitement to viewers and attendees. Their contributions were instrumental in creating a professional and engaging tournament atmosphere.
The success across both Minecraft and Brawlhalla reflects the strength of the ÉDS esports program—not only in competitive results, but also in creativity, leadership, collaboration, and community involvement.
With momentum building, the Dragons now set their sights on the national stage. The Esport Canada Scholastic National '26 feat. Rocket League is coming up on Saturday, April 18, 2026, where ÉDS will once again look to represent their school and community with pride.
Congratulations to all of our ÉDS Dragons competitors and volunteers on an incredible showing during Provincials weekend. Go Dragons!
